After Renovation Cleaning Tips

Renovating a property can be a long and tedious process, but it holds the reward of a newly decorated space. After all the work has been finished, there are still a few things to keep in mind before you can completely relax and enjoy the space you’ve chosen. One of them is the proper cleaning of the entire area, mostly done by post-construction cleaning experts.

Every major renovation work requires the use of construction tools and utilities. When the work is done, there is a mess left, since contractors are most likely not obliged by contract to clean the space. This means plenty of dust specs and other particles that can find their way to even the least likely spots of your house. In order for all household members to relax, the house needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Here’s what you have to bear in mind.

Wiping down surfaces

Almost all surfaces in your room can collect dust during construction, so they need to be thoroughly wiped. This applies even to the walls and closets, no matter their height. Closets and cabinets should be cleaned both externally and internally, including all shelves. Whether the used cloth should be wet or dry depends on the surface being wiped, but don’t forget to go over all countertops and flat surfaces. This also includes the choice of the right cleaning products.

Vacuuming

After all the surfaces have been wiped, it’s time to start vacuuming. All excess dust and dirt can fall to the floor and surrounding surfaces, taking residence in the tiniest cracks and holes. Be sure to cover not only the carpets and upholstery but also all soft surfaces, such as couch cushions. They need to be vacuumed each separately and carefully to remove all residue dust because they are used daily. This is an essential part of the post-renovation cleaning process.

Cleaning air vents and replacing filters

The excess dust and dirt will not only make your new space look filthy, but can also lead to respiratory problems. This is especially dangerous when dust and debris linger in the air long enough to make it into your air vents. That is why vents in the nearby area should be removed immediately and cleaned thoroughly before the specs spread to the remaining vents in the house. Any filter which has been influenced by the renovation process should be taken out and replaced with a new one.

Other areas to be cleaned

There are still other areas that should be cleaned after a renovation process. For a completely dust-free area, don’t forget items such as small appliances, decorative items including lampshades and picture frames, light fixtures, ceiling, and other fans, as well as doorknobs.
